The Last True Vampire has a great storyline with characters that jumped off the pages. We have the last vampire in existence Mikhail and the hustlers Claire meet and form a bond that is stronger than either have experienced before or expected. The storyline is full of wars between covens of dhampiri (part vampires) reaching for power. There is also the sortiari (hunters) still chasing vampires to extinguish them from existence. Mikhail must join with Claire to unite and create an army to protect his people.

Sounds exciting and riveting? Unfortunately the telling was long, drawn out and overly descriptive. Lines and lines of descriptions that could have been summed up in a few words, inner monologues for every thought process and pages and pages of lead up. I just wanted to get to the story.

My other problem was for more than half the book it was a competition between the two main characters on who was more TSTL. One of the supporting characters Ronan, seemed to be the only voice with intelligence for most of the story.

There is violence and scenes of torture throughout the story with one being quite graphic. Some of the scenes are memories, but the most graphic one is in current time and involves both main characters.

The intimate scenes between Mikhail and Claire are very hot. We also get to see Ronan and the psycho coven leader Siobhan in action too. This was a very steamy read.

This book had potential but unfortunately fell flat for me. I spent nearly the whole book skimming while hoping I wasn't missing important plot points and just wanting to get to the end. While I did feel a connection to the characters, the style of writing was too descriptive for me. I'm not sure I'll go back for more.

This book hooked me within the first few pages! Love the story and the characters! Creeped out by the villains! Ordered the next book.....see that the third one is coming out soon.....keep picking the book up to read every time I walk by it....may get a few things done today....

A great new take on the Vampire Romance genre & their enemies. The story just lacks cohesion, too many story lines all over the place and it took me awhile to even like the heroine. There will be more stories in the series and I hope they fill in the holes in this new world and what the characters are to it. Feel like I've been left hanging, but it has possibilities.
I really enjoyed this world that Kate Baxter has introduced in this book! I love vampire romance stories and this one is worth the read! It has everything I look for in it and I can't wait to read the other books in this series! Don't pass this by if you like paranormal romance stories!
Claire is a hustler, sorta. She only does it when she has to. She hustles only who look like they can afford it. And she hates it. When she sees Michael she thinks he will do. What she doesn't expect is the instant attraction.They are meant to be and their are others who will kill to stop it. This was a well told story of a new world with vampires and other paranormal creatures. I love that it does not some like all the other books. Looking forward to reading more of this world. This book has several graphic and scary torture scenes.
This was a book with all things I look for in a new world. Mikhail has been tortured enough and it is time for him to find his mate. Claire is the kick butt mate for him. They have a few hurdles to get by but they do and together they will face the future complications. Can't wait for the next story in this World. These stories are steamy..
I am always on the lookout for a new paranormal romance to try, it is my favorite genre after all. The Last True Vampire is the first book in the Last True Vampire series and it overall was good, I had hoped it would have been great but for me it missed that mark.

I enjoyed the premise but had a hard time liking Claire throughout the book. She is first introduced to us as a street hustler and pickpocket, doing that she needs to pay her rent when she is short. At first I thought oh I think I am going to like her a lot but quickly that changed. She, for me at least was not a very likable character. I get it that she was a hustler but after it being mentioned over and over again I was over it and honestly annoyed. She isn’t as smart as she wants to believe she is and that is pointed out more than once by her immature actions at stubborn attitude. She puts herself and others in harm way more than once.

Mikhail aka Michael is the last true vampire of the race, until he finds his mate he is unable to turn any of the dhampirs wanting to be made into full vampires and restore the race. I really liked Mikhail but I wanted him to be more dominant and stronger than he was until later in the book. He is supposed to be the King of his race and while that responsibly is a lot to have on your shoulders more than once he didn’t necessarily come across as weak but he also wasn’t as strong as he should have been. His soul is tethered to Claire’s and she makes him stronger but is also a weakness because enemies will use her to get to him.

With all that being said I did overall enjoy The Last True Vampire, I think this book fell into the first book in a series issues because it does set up a lot that will be happening in the future books. Now this book has been out for a while so I can luckily keep reading this series without having to wait and keep reading is what I do plan on doing. I think if the characters are more balanced in future books then this will be one series that this book whore will truly enjoy.
